19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, achieving just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden title after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since that period of 2023.

Success also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced service.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a decider.

Moutet saved 4 initial break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
